Garden Neglect and Regret

Does your garden look like this...

I started this garden with only the best intentions, as every year. Pour over seed catalogs in February. Start my organic seeds in the dining room in March. Marvel over how healthy the are in April. Plant outside at the end of May. Weed, mulch and water diligently June and July. Then August... what happened? Weeds over six feet high! Visually discouraging but also completely misleading. I ventured out to the garden preparing to be devastated but instead I found a bounty!

Tomatoes nestled in their tangled vines. Beets creeping out of the ground.

Sweet potatoes beneath their withering green tops.

Kale thriving.

And pumpkins, my goodness, the squash!

Getting excited about canning this season and cooking up some great fall recipes. I need to be reminded every fall that its OK the garden is a mess. All the work earlier in the season will pay off yet!

  1. Well sister. I am grateful your garden also suffers from neglect! We are normal! Ours ended up with weeds and wilted and dead things ... but then the potatoes and tomatoes and peppers and eggplants and beans ... you get it.

They were so wonderful no matter what the garden ended up looking like.
